Avoiding use of words that carry uncomfortable meanings and can be demoralizing is not a political intention. It’s being civil.

Consider relationships between servers or drives where “slave” isn’t just implied, it’s used outright. Would you refer to a “master” server in the presence of a black person? Ok, what about “slave”?

If you were to find out that sparked some discomfort in them, even a little, would you continue to use it?

It’s not our problem? Leveling the playing field, whether you like it or not, means creating environments where we are open to adjusting our behavior to eliminate even the hostilities we don’t explicitly intend. So, yes, it absolutely is our problem.
